New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Brad Emaus, Eric Thames and Adam Loewen homered to support Kyle Drabek's Eastern League-leading 4th victory as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Reading Phillies, 6-3, on Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium to cap the most successful April in team history.
New Hampshire (14-7) jumped on starting pitcher Drew Naylor in the bottom of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni (1-for-3, SF, R) led off by looping a single to right, setting a franchise record by reaching base in his 25th consecutive game. Loewen (1-for-2, HR, 2 BB, 2 R) drew a walk and, one out later, Emaus (2-for-3, HR, BB, 3 RBI) went opposite field for his second homer, a three-run shot that gave the Fisher Cats a 3-0 lead.
Mastroianni's second-inning sac fly plated Adam Calderone (1-for-4, 2B, R), who had doubled and moved to third on Jonathan Diaz's sac bunt, for a 4-0 lead.
Thames (1-for-4, HR) lined his team-leading fourth homer of the season with one out in the third, taking Naylor's first offering onto the access road in right for a 5-0 lead.
Drabek (4-1) worked a season-high seven innings and struck out seven to earn his third consecutive win. The right-hander surrendered just four hits, including a pair of solo homers -Tuffy Gosewisch's first of the year in the fifth inning and Tyson Gillies' second of the season in the sixth- and yielded four walks.
Naylor (1-3) suffered the loss after yielding five runs on six hits in six innings. The right-hander fanned five and walked three.
Loewen tagged his second homer of the season off Phillies' reliever Sergio Escalona in the seventh, giving the Fisher Cats a 6-2 lead.
Reading (8-13) scored an unearned run in the eighth when Gillies (2-for-4, HR, 2 R) singled, advanced to second on Adrian Martin's throwing error and scored on an RBI single by Brian Stavisky (1-for-4, RBI), but Martin struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to close out the Fisher Cats' fourth consecutive victory.
The Fisher Cats take on the Phillies in the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at 1:35pm in search of their fifth straight win. New Hampshire sends right-hander Randy Boone (1-2, 3.38) to the mound against Reading right-hander Vance Worley (1-2, 5.23). Radio coverage begins with Fisher Cats Pre-Game at 1:15pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
