Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA â The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost to the Richmond Roosters 2-1 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,305 at Falconi Field Sunday evening.
Newcomer Matt Woycahk and three relievers held the Wild Things to only five hits. Woychak baffled Washington hitters over 5 1/3 innings with a variety of breaking balls and changeups. The Wild Things got their only run in the sixth inning when Zack Cates singled home Jason Kane, but Josh Loggins was thrown out at home by Rooster leftfielder Drew Miller to end the inning.
Woychak got out of trouble in each of the first two innings. After walking the bases loaded in the first inning, Doug Garcia grounded out to end the Wild Thing threat. Ryan Ellis and Jake Bollig both singled in the second inning, but were both caught stealing by Woychak.
Woychak earned the win in his initial start for Richmond. All-star representative Dave Bradley pitched six effective inningsâbut got little offensive supportâand took the loss to even his record at 4-4.
The Wild Things will conclude their series with Richmond Monday at 7:05 at Falconi Field. Nick Aiello will take the mound for Washington. Chad Spencer is the projected starting pitcher for Richmond. The All-star break will start Tuesday. The All-star game will be held Wednesday at Gateway. The Wild Things will return to action against the Florence Freedom Friday at Falconi Field. Game time is 7:05.
