Cheetahs win second straight
July 13, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL- The Cook County Cheetahs (23-23) moved within 2 ½ games of first-place Kenosha in the Frontier League's West Division with an 8-5 win over the Mammoths on Saturday night.
The largest crowd of the season, 2393, saw the Cheetahs get on the board early with a 3-run first inning, highlighted by a 2-run homer by first baseman Kevin Brown, his third of the season. After allowing two runs in the second, winning pitcher Kris Regas (2-3) settled down and let the Cheetah offense do more damage. The Cheetahs got five hits in the fourth inning, combined with a Kenosha error, to score three more runs. Cook County scored two more in the eighth to seal the win. Tom Davidson pitched the last two innings to pick up his second save, and Saul Solveson (1-2) took the loss for the Mammoths..
"We are finally starting to come around with our bats," said Cheetahs Manager Mike Moore. "Our pitching has been great for the last couple of weeks, so hopefully we can keep the offense going. We scored 6 last night in Rockford, so maybe we're finally getting some consistent offense."
The Cook County Cheetahs will play the Mammoths tomorrow at 1:05 on Sunday. For ticket information please call 708.489.2255.
