Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Jamie Richmond continued the Kane County Cougars' dominant starting pitching Sunday afternoon, leading the Cougars to a 7-1 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps in front of 6,088 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have won five in a row for the first time since April, claimed eight of their last 10 and also swept the season series against the Whitecaps.

Richmond's (6-8) only blemish over 7 2/3 dominant frames was an unearned run in the top of the third. He yielded just four hits -- all singles -- and walked one while striking out six. It was his first victory and quality start since July 2.

The Cougars scored six of their seven runs during a long bottom of the third against Lauren Gagnier (1-6). D.J. Hollingworth, Shane Keough and Jake Smith all had RBI singles, Michael Richard drew a bases-loaded walk and scored on a wild pitch and Larry Cobb connected for a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1. Then in the fifth Greg Dowling roped a sacrifice fly to complete game's scoring.

The Cougars (19-23) are off Monday and continue their seven-game home stand Tuesday night at 6:30 CT with the first of four against the Beloit Snappers. Anthony Capra (1-1, 4.50) will face Henry Reyes (1-0, 3.94).
