Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (Aug 2, 2008) - The Burlington swept a three-game series from the Ft. Wayne Wizards with a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon. In the contest, Mike Moustakas hit his 18th homerun of the season while Matt Mitchell recorded his eighth win.

The Bees scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. It was an odd inning in the sense that the Bees did not record a hit in the frame but did receive three base runners from two batters being hit by a pitch and one batter being walked. The Bees made it a 3-0 game in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Juan Rivera singled to score Jamar Walton from third.

The Wizards scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 4-1 game. The Bees answered back in the bottom of the fifth. Moustakas led the inning off by hitting his 18th homerun of the season, which gave the Bees their three-run lead back.

The Bees added to their lead in the sixth inning by scoring two more runs. With one out, Zach Evangelho singled and then stole second. Evangelho then scored from second on a Joe Billick single. After David Lough reached on a Fielder's Choice and Juan Rivera singled, Lough came around to score on a Moustakas RBI single.

Fort Wayne scored two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth to get back within two runs but that was as close as they could get. The Bees outhit the Wizards 9-8. Rivera, Moustakas, Evengelho and Billick each had two hits. Moustakas was the only Bee with multiple RBI as he had two.

Matt Mitchell got the win pitching five innings allowing one run on two hits. He is now 8-8. Joe Augustine picked up his 9th save after allowing three runs in four innings.

The Bees have Monday off and will begin a series at Peoria on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Ray Liotta is the scheduled starter. He will be opposed by Jon Lieber, who will be on a rehab stint from the Cubs. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
