Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Notes: The Snappers came up short Sunday afternoon as they allowed the Lansing Lugnuts to score 11 runs for the second consecutive day in their 11-8 loss. Starter Steven Hirschfeld picked up the loss, going four innings and allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits.

Lansing powered ahead with eight runs in the top of the second inning. The Lugnuts got those eight runs off of Hirschfeld, and cruised to an early 8-0 lead after one and a half.

The score reached 9-1 in favor of the Lugnuts heading into the bottom of the fourth when the Snappers would tack on two more. Beloit got their two runs off two hits and one costly error from Lansing's Moises Sierra. The two runs made it a 9-3 game after four.

After Lansing crawled ahead 11-4 in the top of the seventh, the Snappers began their attempted comeback in the bottom of the eighth. Paul Kelly got things going with a one-out double and was driven home on a Rene Leveret RBI-single to left. Kelly's run drew the Snaps to within six, 11-5.

Beloit got even closer in the bottom of the ninth inning with three more runs. A two-run double off the bat of Chris Cates made it an 11-8 game with only one out. Unfortunately, Paul Kelly and Rene Leveret both grounded out to third base to end the threat and send Beloit to their third straight loss.

Paul Kelly went 2 for 5 with two doubles in his return from the disabled list. Reliever Mike Allen pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Snaps who fell to 21-22 in the second half.
