Kurt Looby tallied the first triple-double in Rio Grande Valley history as the Vipers surged past the Iowa Energy 113-101 Sunday night at Dodge Arena. Looby set a new franchise record, and tied the D- League record for block shots with 11, finished two rebounds shy of the franchise high for rebounds with 22 and scored 12 points in the Vipers victory. With the win the Vipers tied their inaugural season win total of 21 with three games left to play. The loss for Iowa is their 22nd of the year and drops their lead over Dakota in the Central Division to a ½ game.

The Vipers outscored the Energy 30-21 after the first quarter. The Vipers dominated the first period boards 23-6 with Looby hauling in nine of them. The Vipers closed out the first half on an 11-4 run capped off by a Lobby tip-in at the buzzer to take a 64-45 lead into halftime, their largest of the game at that point.

The Vipers dominated the boards the entire game leading Iowa on the final tally 57-33. The 57 boards ties a Vipers franchise record set March 8, 2009 at Tulsa. Looby out-rebounded the Energy for the entire first half 16-14. The Vipers also scored 25 second chance points and outshot the Energy 51% to 38* for the game.

Ernest Scott was the Vipers leading scorer scoring 20 points off the bench on 6/10 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Jawad Williams struggled to find his shot but still led all Viper starters with 18 points. Jared Jodan scored 11 points and dished out nine assists while Julian Sensely scored 13 off the bench with five boards and six assists.

Othyus Jeffers led three Iowa double figure scorers with 25 points in the loss. Demitris Nichols scored 24 points and finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Curtis Stinson finished an assists shy of a double- double as he scored 19. The Energy bench was outscored by RGV 51-24 in the loss.

Rio Grande Valley will wrap up its season with three straight games against the Austin Toros. The first two games of the three game set will be in Austin on Wednesday and Friday. The regular season finale will be on Saturday night when the Vipers host the Toros at Dodge Arena. Wednesday's game is scheduled for a 7:30 tip-off at the Austin Convention Center.
