Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - Birmingham's Lucas Harrell, the Southern League's leader in wins, took the hill at Trustmark Park Tuesday night, but the M-Braves were more than up to the task. Ryne Reynoso threw eight scoreless innings and the Braves offense touched Harrell up for six runs in a 6-1 beat down of Birmingham.

The M-Braves jumped all over Birmingham's Lucas Harrell in the bottom of the first. Matt Young and Concepcion Rodriguez led it off with back-to-back singles and Willie Cabrera walked to load the bases. Back-to-back singles by JC Boscan and Greg Creek gave the Braves a 3-0 lead. Boscan scored from second when Eric Campbell's rocket to third went through Dayan Viciedo's legs and Creek came in to score on a bases loaded walk by Travis Jones. The Braves got five runs on four hits and an error and took a 5-0 lead into the second inning.

Mississippi wasn't done as they added another run in the second. Rodriguez walked and moved to second on a groundout by Willie Cabrera. Rodriguez moved to third when Harrell's pickoff attempt sailed into centerfield and he scored on a wild pitch by Harrell. After two, the Braves led 6-0.

Harrell had a terrible outing by his standards giving up six runs, five earned, on five hits and six walks through five innings and fell to 8-3 on the year. Matt Zaleski threw two scoreless innings and Matt Long tossed a shutout inning in relief.

Birmingham got a run in the ninth to get on the board and make the final, 6-1.

Ryne Reynoso gave the Braves eight scoreless innings. It was the longest outing for an M-Braves starter this year and he improved to 4-4 on the year. Tim Gustafson came on and gave up a run in the ninth.

The third game in this six-game homestand will be Wednesday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05. Kyle Cofield (5-2, 3.14) will take the hill for the Braves against Birmingham's John Ely (6-1, 3.27).
