MOBILE, Ala. - A four-run first inning and a solid outing from Wes Roemer kept the BayBears from looking over their shoulders on Tuesday night as they bounce the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 9-2 at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Kyle Parker (4-4) pitched himself into trouble in the bottom of the first as he walked Evan Frey to begin the contest. Pedro Ciriaco followed with a single while Bryan Byrne was given a free pass to load the bags. Parker still couldn't find the dish as he walked Sean Coughlin to bring home Frey.

Once Parker located the plate, Cyle Hankerd bounced a double down the third base line to drive in Ciriaco and Byrne. Coughlin scored on a sac fly by Chris Rahl to make it 4-0. Roemer (3-4) wouldn't need much more support as he was locked in from the outset while fanning a season-high seven over 6 1/3 innings.

He did battle with his control a bit in the third as he whacked Marshall Hubbard with the bases loaded, allowing West Tenn (27-45, 0-2) to jump on the board. From there, he blew away Colt Morton and Matt Mangini to get out of trouble.

After Mel Stocker went from first to home on a wild pitch and a throwing error to cut the BayBears' lead in half in the fifth, Rahl put the home team up by four again with a two-out, two-run triple to knock in Byrne and Hankerd.

Three more came home for the BayBears (39-33, 2-0) in the seventh as Ricardo Sosa singled home Hankerd while James Skelton's two-run poke finished the scoring as Rahl and Sosa touched home.

In place of Roemer, Scott Maine tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Ramon Sanchez finished the contest with a scoreless ninth, striking out the last two men he faced.

The BayBears and Jaxx battle in game three of their five-game set on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 as Jarrod Parker (3-3, 3.19) comes off the disabled list to get the start. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
