Diamond Jaxx Drop Ugly Affair in Mobile, 9-2

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 23, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (0-2) drop the second game of the series to Mobile (2-0) in ugly fashion on Tuesday night, 9-2. The Jaxx left 11 runners on base and were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the game. The Jaxx could not take advantage of five walks and four hit batsman by BayBears pitching.

The BayBears jumped out to a big lead on Tuesday night, in game two. Jaxx starter, Kyle Parker (4-4) walked three of the first four batters that he faced and mixed in a hit to Pedro Ciriaco. With one run in, Cyle Hankerd doubled in two runs giving the BayBears a 3-0 lead. The next hitter, Chris Rahl flied a sacrifice fly to right scoring the fourth run of the first frame. Mobile took the early 4-0 lead.

The Jaxx scored their first run n the top of the third. BayBears starter, Wes Roemer with one out walked Oswaldo Navarro and Ezequiel Carrera. A base hit by Mel Stocker loaded the bases. Marshall Hubbard was struck by a pitch, plating the Jaxx first run of the game. The Jaxx pulled within two in the top of the fifth scoring a run on a two-base wild pitch and error by Mobile catcher, James Skelton.

Diamond Jaxx starter, Kyle Parker (4-4) was relieved by Mumba Rivera after just 3.2 innings of work. It was Parker's second shortest outing of the season, taking the loss. Parker gave up four runs on five hits while walking four and plunking two. On the other, Wes Roemer (3-4) went into the seventh going 6.1 innings. Roemer gave up just two runs on three base hits. He got around three walks and struck out seven in the win.

The BayBears began to put things away in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two aboard, Chris Rahl smacked a 2-RBI triple giving Mobile a 6-2 lead. Then in the seventh, Mobile score three runs on Mumba Rivera. In the seventh, James Skelton had a 2-RBI single and Ricardo Sosa added an RBI base hit. The BayBears took a commanding 6-2 lead. Mumba Rivera made his longest appearance of the season, dealing over 70 pitches. Rivera gave up five runs on six hits. Rivera also walked three and struck out two.

The Jaxx and BayBears have a quick turn-around with a game on Wednesday at 12:05. RHP Luis Munoz (2-3, 4.98) will make the start for the Jaxx. He will be opposed by RHP Jarrod Parker (3-3, 3.19). The game can be heard online at diamondjaxx.com
