Reydel Medina Names FSL Player of the Week

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Florida State League named Reydel Medina the Player of the Week for July 25-31 on Monday afternoon. Medina went 12-for-25 (.480) during the week with two home runs, seven RBI, six extra-base hits, and seven runs scored. He reached base in half of his plate appearances and posted an OPS of 1.460
Medina becomes the fourth Tortuga to win the award this season after Aristides Aquino (April), Taylor Sparks (May) and Tyler Mahle (June). Daytona has now had a recipient in each of the first fourth months of the season, which was previous done in 2014.
Medina was called up from Dayton (A) on July 26th, when OF Juan Duran went on the disabled list. It's the second such honor for Medina after being named the Pioneer League Player of the Week with Billings (R) in July, 2015.
The week ended in grand fashion for Medina, who notched his sixth career multi-homer game Saturday night against Bradenton. It was his first since August, 2015. He then followed that up with the second multi-triple game of his career on Sunday against the Marauders. It was the first for Daytona since Wendell Soto on May 20, 2015.
Tyler Alexander, of Lakeland, won the Pitcher of the Week for the FSL.
The Tortugas wrap up their series with Bradenton Monday night at Radiology Assocaites Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch is schedule for 7:05 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB. Medina is penciled in the starting lineup, batting fifth and playing right field.
