Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
VIERA, FL - Despite pitching to an ERA south of 3 this season, Brevard County ace Jon Perrin entered Monday night's game against the Stone Crabs with just one win against seven losses, a victim of low run support and a shaky bullpen.
Evidently, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Perrin (2-7) carved up the Crabs lineup through nine dominant innings, tossing a complete game three-hitter as Brevard County defeated Charlotte 4-1 on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium. The win earned the Manatees a split in the four-game series.
The Stone Crabs failed to muster much against the right-hander, who didn't walk a batter while fanning eight and facing just two men over the minimum. His one blemish was a solo home run in the fourth inning by Alec Sole, the fifth of the year for the Charlotte slugger. Andrew Velazquez and Wilmer Dominguez were the only other Stone Crabs to collect hits against Perrin.
Charlotte, meanwhile, ran into trouble right from the start. Greg Harris opened his night by allowing a ground-rule double to 2016 fifth overall pick Corey Ray. Harris gave up a single to George Iskenderian between two outs, including a strikeout of Clint Coulter, before surrendering two straight RBI singles to Blake Allemand and Elvis Rubio that put Brevard in front 2-0. A fielding error by Sole on what should have been the third out allowed Allemand to score the inning's third run.
Harris (7-6) did not allow another run on the night, keeping his ERA firmly at 3.76 despite taking the loss. Jose Alvarado allowed an unearned run but nothing more in two innings of relief.
With the loss, the Stone Crabs fall to 19-17 in the second half, a game and a half behind St. Lucie for first place in the FSL South.
Charlotte takes an off day on Tuesday before returning to Charlotte Sports Park for $2 Wednesday on August 3rd against Palm Beach. Stone Crabs RHP Chris Pike (3-8, 4.04) takes the hill against Cardinals RHP Johnny Walter (1-3, 4.56). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
