Flaherty Dominate in Win

Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (43-63, 11-27) scored in five of the first six innings to cruise to a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Yankees (63-44, 21-17) on Monday evening.

The Rundown

Jack Flaherty took the start for the 19th time this season and turned in one of his best outings of the season. He went 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking four and striking out five others.

The Yankees jumped out to an early lead as Jorge Mateo led off the game with a single and got to second on a stolen base. Thairo Estrada then singled him in to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Flaherty got out of the first on a double play ball up the middle turned by Dylan Tice and Andrew Sohn.

The Cardinals answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Michael Pritchard hit a one-out single to left and the Yankees starting pitcher went out of the game due to an injury. Grayson then hit a double to deep left center to bring in Pritchard as Caleb Frare came on in relief. The game was tied 1-1 after one.

The Cardinals scored again in the third to make it 2-1. Vaughn Bryan singled and stole second and Pritchard followed with a walk. Cole Lankford advanced both runners on a ground out to first. Grayson grounded out to third as well bringing Pritchard across the plate to take the lead.

In the fourth the Cardinals extended their lead to 3-1. Oscar Mercado singled to center field and got to second on a passed ball. Dylan Tice then singled him in on the next pitch to make it a two run game.

The Cardinals scored for the third consecutive inning in the fifth to make it 4-1 over Tampa. Oscar Mercado was given a two out gift via a base on balls and got to second on a wild pitch. Tice then drove him in again, this time on a double.

The final run of the game was scored in the sixth by Palm Beach. Vaughn Bryan got a one-out walk and got to third on a throwing error by the catcher on a pick-off attempt. Michael Pritchard singled him in to make it a 5-1 game.

Landon Beck came in a pitch 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and Robby Rowland closed out the game in the ninth with another hitless inning.

Stat of the Game

2 - Grayson hit in two runs for his team leading 36th and 37th RBI of the season.

Notes

Grayson hit his 16th double of the season in the first inning to drive in the Cardinals first run of the game.

Flaherty only gave up three hits in his outing, two of which came in the first inning.

Rowland now has five appearances with Palm Beach without giving up a run.

The Cardinals have an off day tomorrow before going on the road for a quick two game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
