Mets, Flying Tigers Split a Pair at Tradition Field

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets and Lakeland Flying Tigers played a pair of games at Tradition Field on Monday. The Mets won the completion of Sunday's suspended game, 4-2, while the Flying Tigers beat the Mets 4-1 in seven-inning game later in the evening.

Sunday's game was suspended with no score in the top of the second. When play resumed Monday, Mickey Jannis took over for Chris Flexen on the mound and delivered 5.1 solid innings to earn the win.

Jannis, a knuckleballer who was sent down from Double-A Binghamton, scattered five hits and allowed one run. He walked three and struck out two.

Alex Palsha gave up one unearned run over the final two innings to get his first FSL save.

The Mets scored single runs in four different innings. They scratched a run across in the second when David Thompson reached on a strikeout-wild pitch and later scored on an infield hit by Jhoan Urena.

Patrick Biondi and Kevin Taylor hit RBI singles. Luis Guillorme laced a run-scoring double.

Biondi went 3 for 3 with a sac bunt. Vinny Siena added two hits.

In the seven-inning game, Lakeland's Ismael Salgado blasted a two-run double in the fifth off of Robby Coles in the fifth to break a scoreless tie.

Salgado went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Mets were able to avoid a shutout when Guillorme scored in the seventh. Guillorme doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.

Lakeland starter Endrys Briceno tossed four scoreless innings. Jairo Labourt pitched the final three and was credited with a win.

Tomas Nido, Jonathan Johnson and Guillorme had doubles. Biondi went 1 for 2 with two walks.

Next Up: The Mets (56-48, 21-16) are off on Tuesday. They return to the diamond on Wednesday when they face the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. It is a battle for first place in the FSL South Division.
