York Revolution News Release
Zack Segovia went the distance on a strong complete game effort, but the York Revolution suffered another close setback, falling 3-2 to the Camden Riversharks on Wednesday evening at Campbell's Field. The Revs will look to avoid the series sweep in Thursday night's finale.
Segovia (2-5) allowed just five hits in a season-best eight innings, walking only two and striking out three. The righty retired his final eight batters faced and 14 of the last 16 hitters.
York grabbed an early lead on a two-run double down the left field line by Chad Tracy in the top of the first inning, spotting the Revs a 2-0 lead and giving Tracy six RBI in the first two games of the series. The Revs were unable to score the rest of the way, however, stranding at least one runner in each of the first seven innings and nine runners total on the night.
Camden tied the game at 2-2 on a two-out, two-run single to right by Chris Walker in the bottom of the second. The base hit came after a safe call that the Revs argued on an attempted double play helped extend the inning.
The Riversharks took a 3-2 lead an inning later on another two-out single, this time by Raul Padron. It plated Wilson Valdez who reached base on a failed squeeze bunt, took second on a rundown and stole third, one of four stolen bases for the Riversharks on the night. It was one of three stolen bases by players who scored for Camden's offense.
York appeared to tie the game in the top of the seventh when Mark Teahen doubled to left field with two outs, but Andres Perez was called out at the plate attempting to score from first base on another call that the Revs contested.
The Revs failed to reach base after that, as Jon Velasquez and Adrian Martin (22nd save) handled perfect eighth and ninth innings out of the Camden bullpen. Four relievers combined with starter Aaron Tullo (2-1) who allowed two runs in five innings to pick up the win despite issuing four walks.
York out-hit Camden 8-5 in the loss.
Notes: The loss was the Revs' 30th one-run defeat of the season and second of the current series. Of the last 14 losses, 12 have come by two runs or fewer including nine by a single run. Perez doubled in the fifth inning, giving him seven hits in the last five games, six of which have gone for extra bases... it gave him a league-leading 36 doubles on the season, one short of matching a club record (Ramon Castro, 2010)... it was his 71st double all-time with York, matching Keoni DeRenne for second-most in team history. York's Chris Cody (13-8, 3.21) will face Camden righty Jake Hale (3-5, 4.08) in Thursday's series finale. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
