York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution won for the sixth time in seven games, taking the opening game of a four-game series in Camden, 6-4 on Friday night against the Riversharks. The Revs have also won eight of their last 10 overall, improving to 12-9 in the second half and staying just two games back in the Freedom Division race.
Camden scored a first inning run as Carlos Guzman completed a string of three consecutive one-out singles with an RBI knock up the middle, spotting the hosts a 1-0 lead.
York answered right away in the top of the second. Bryan Pounds hammered a ground-rule double to deep right-center with one out in the inning, and Andres Perez followed with a line drive RBI double down the left field line, tying the score at 1-1. The double was the 90th of Perez' career with York, adding to his franchise record.
The Revs went in front with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, scoring on back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Perez and Yeicok Calderon to build a 3-1 lead.
Camden inched back, scoring in the bottom of the fifth as Jose Gil doubled down the right field line and came home on a single to center by Evan Crawford, and again in the sixth on a two-out bloop RBI single to left-center by Mike Costanzo, pulling even at 3-3.
Once again, the York offense provided an immediate response. Calderon led off the top of the seventh with a single up the middle and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Luis De La Cruz. With two outs, Jose Constanza ripped an RBI single to left as Calderon raced home, sliding with his hand across the plate ahead of the throw. Constanza took second on the throw home, and scored as Wilson Valdez followed with an RBI single to left, giving the Revs a 5-3 lead.
Revs starter Rommie Lewis finished his night with a six-pitch bottom of the seventh, earning his team-best seventh victory of the season. Lewis (7-7) allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one, and struck out five.
Camden pulled back within a run in the bottom of the eighth on a line drive sac fly to left by Joel Guzman, but Revs reliever Ty'Relle Harris struck out Costanzo to strand the tying run at first.
York added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Constanza reached with one out on an error by Guzman when the first baseman lost sight of a chopper in the lights. Valdez followed with a hit-and-run single to right, and with runners at the corners, stole second on a pitch uncorked into the dirt by reliever Dan Blewett. Constanza sprinted home on the play, scoring the unearned run.
Josh Judy nailed down the victory with a perfect ninth inning including a pair of strikeouts to notch his 10th save.
Camden starter Sean Gleason (5-10) suffered the loss, tagged with five runs in 6.2 innings.
