York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution rolled to a fourth consecutive win, beating the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9-2 on Monday night at Santander Stadium. The Revs maintain their one-game lead for first place in the Freedom Division with six games remaining in the first half, and will host the Blue Crabs again on Tuesday evening.

It was another big offensive night for the Revs, who tied a season-high with 16 hits for the third time and second time on the current winning streak.

York got on the board right away in the first inning as singles by Justin Greene and Wilson Valdez and a walk to Eric Patterson loaded the bases with no outs. Chad Tracy plated the first run with a sacrifice fly to center and Johan Limonta added another on an RBI groundout for a quick 2-0 lead. It marked the fifth time in as many games on the current homestand that the Revs scored a first inning run, and the fourth time in those five games plating two runs in their first at-bat, having outscored the opposition 9-0 in the first inning over the last five games.

The Revs expanded their lead with three runs in the third, chasing Blue Crabs starter Brad Meyers (0-1) early in the game. Tracy connected on his seventh homer of the season and seventh in his last 18 games with a solo shot to left field. Limonta followed with a single and scored on a double to right-center by Ofilio Castro, who then scored when Travis Garcia drilled a single into the Arch Nemesis, making it a 5-0 York lead and ending Meyers' night after 2.1 innings.

Garcia and Salvador Paniagua teamed up on back-to-back homers to left field in the bottom of the fifth, increasing the lead to 7-0. It was the Revs' second set of back-to-back homers in as many games.

Southern Maryland got on the board on an RBI single by James Skelton in the top of the seventh, but the Revs answered with two more runs in their half of the inning as Garcia launched another ball off the Arch Nemesis for an RBI double, and Sean Smith laced an RBI single to left, giving every batter in the York lineup at least one hit.

The Blue Crabs managed a ninth inning run on a double by Angel Chavez, but only scored twice despite 13 hits, stranding a whopping 17 runners for the game.

Revs starter Jorge Martinez (4-2) picked up the win with five scoreless innings. The righty stranded nine runners, eight of which reached after he recorded the first two outs. Martinez finished the month of June with a 1.64 ERA, the fourth lowest in a month in team history (minimum 25.0 innings).

Notes: With three home runs on the night, the Revs have mashed 11 homers over their last four games including seven over the last two contests. York improves to 24-3 on the season when hitting a home run and 13-0 when hitting multiple homers. They have jumped from seventh in the league rankings in home runs to second over the last four games. Overall, the offense is batting .369 (55-149) on the four-game winning streak. The Revs have outscored opponents 26-3 over the last three games. At 38-26, the Revs have matched their season-high at 12 games over .500. They are within two wins of matching their club record for a first half (40-30 in 2010). Valdez stole his league-leading 27th base in the first inning, and is one shy of matching York's single season record of 28 (Scott Grimes, 2010). After opening the game with six scoreless innings, the Revs' pitching staff's scoreless streak reached a season-high 22 consecutive innings, surpassing the previous high of 19 innings (May 17-19). The Revs finish June with a 17-11 record. York's team ERA in June finished at 3.05, the second lowest in a month in club history. Going 3-for-4 with a double, homer, and three RBI, Garcia is now hitting .400 (24-for-60) over his last 16 games, and is 12-for-22 (.545) with three homers, four doubles, and 10 RBI on his current six-game hitting streak. Greene (3-for-5) extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games, batting .471 on the streak. York's Alain Quijano (5-4, 4.12) faces Southern Maryland's Brian Grening (1-5, 7.94) in Tuesday's game at 6:30 p.m. It's a Silver Sluggers Tuesday presented by WellSpan Sports Medicine, featuring Shurfine Baseball Bingo. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for a U.S. Men's National Team World Cup viewing party with the match being shown on the video board. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
