York Revolution News Release

Carrying a four-run lead into the bottom of the eighth, the York Revolution suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss in 10 innings to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Revs have dropped three straight, and will look to bounce back when they travel to Southern Maryland to open a three-game series on Tuesday night.

Lancaster rallied to tie the game in stunning fashion in the bottom of the eighth. Facing reliever Stephen Penney who entered the night with a 0.92 ERA, the Barnstormers handed the righty his first earned runs allowed since May 8, snapping a streak of 17 appearances and 15.1 innings without an earned run.

Kevin Rivers (4-for-5) led off the inning with a single to right, glancing off the end of the glove of first baseman Andres Perez on a leaping attempt. With one out, Luke Hughes worked a walk on a close full count offering. A groundout by Wilson Batista advanced both runners. Rivers then scored as Brandon Jones lined a hard base hit off the body of Penney, cutting the York lead to 6-3. Keith Castillo then launched a three-run homer to right-center, tying the score at 6-6.

Lancaster manufactured the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. After a pair of one-pitch outs from closer Josh Judy (2-1), Anderson Feliz battled his way on base with a two-out walk. Feliz then stole second and scored on a walk-off single to left by Yusuke Kajimoto as the Barnstormers completed the improbable comeback.

The Revs were in position to earn a four-game series split, building a 6-2 lead through the middle innings.

Down 2-0 in the fifth, a throwing error by Feliz at shortstop extended the inning. The Revs cashed in as Shannon Wilkerson lined a game-tying two-run single to right. Wilson Valdez slid behind Castillo's tag and dove to reach home plate on a spectacular effort to record the tying run.

York then played long ball to take the lead in the sixth. Nick Ferdinand connected on a go-ahead solo homer to right field, his fifth in just 18 games played. Yeicok Calderon later slammed a three-run home run to right, his first round-tripper with York, giving the Revs a commanding 6-2 advantage. It was the Revs' first four-run inning since June 9 vs. Lancaster.

Revs starter Rommie Lewis notched a quality start, giving up just two runs over 6.1 innings. The lefty retired nine straight at one point, and allowed no damage after giving up a two-run double to Feliz in the bottom of the second.

Notes: Penney had allowed just one hit over his previous seven appearances before Monday's game. Left-handed reliever Frank Gailey made his Revs debut with a scoreless ninth inning, allowing two singles. The three-run homer by Calderon was the Revs second in as many games as Brandon Boggs connected on a three-run shot on Sunday afternoon; York previously had just one three-run homer in its first 55 games of the season. Ferdinand now has 11 extra-base hits in 18 games and has also hit safely in nine straight. York falls to 3-4 in extra-inning games while Lancaster improves to 4-2. Barnstormers starter Joe Gardner had not allowed a run in 17.2 innings over three starts before Wilkerson's single in the fifth. York allowed all seven runs with two outs, and has allowed 15 of 16 runs over the last two games with two outs. The Revs fall to 8-7 in this season's War of the Roses series having dropped five of the last six after a 7-2 start. Lancaster has finished the game scoring six, eight, and five unearned runs respectively over the last three contests. The Revs held leads of three runs and four runs over the past two games and fall to 8-15 in games in which the lead has changed hands. Lewis has allowed just three earned runs over 25.1 innings in four starts vs. Lancaster. York righty Shawn Hill (1-7, 4.85) will face Southern Maryland right-hander Brian Grening (2-4, 5.53) in Tuesday's opener at Regency Furniture Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
