Riversharks Come From Behind To Defeat Bluefish

(Bridgeport, CT - June 23, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-37) fell to the Camden Riversharks (23-35) 7-5 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the opener of a three-game midweek series in the Park City. Bridgeport pounded out ten more hits in defeat, marking the 19th time this season they have reached double figures in that category in a game.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan (3-4) picked up a no-decision, pitching six innings, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on seven hits, walking two, and striking out four. Camden Starting Pitcher Wes Torrez also did not factor in the game's final outcome, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out three.

Bridgeport sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom half of the third inning off Torrez, scoring four runs on five hits to take the early 4-0 edge. Welington Dotel made it 1-0 in favor of the 'Fish with a run-scoring single, plating Matt Wessinger with the game's first run. John Alonso followed right behind with a sacrifice fly, scoring Jake Luce. The rally was completed on an opposite field two-run double by Andres Rodriguez, scoring Dotel and Jobduan Morales. Following a 22 minute rain delay, Bridgeport took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning on the second sacrifice fly in as many at bats from Alonso, scoring Luce. It was Alonso's team-leading 27th run batted in.

Camden clawed their way back all night long and tied the game in the seventh inning off Luis Perdomo on a sacrifice fly by Paddy Matera, scoring Daniel Rockett, who led off the frame with a walk. The Riversharks would take the lead in the eighth inning off Bridgeport losing pitcher Tim Gustafson (0-5), scoring three runs on five hits, with the lead run scoring on an RBI single by Brandon Chaves, bringing home Jose Gil who doubled to start the rally. Gustafson did not record an out, facing five batters, allowing three runs on five hits. Rob Bryson (1-0) retired all five batters he faced in relief to earn the victory, striking out three in the process. Matt Gorgen retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out two in securing his 12th save of the season. Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with three hits.

The Bluefish continue their series with the Camden Riversharks the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday, June 24th, in the middle game of the series in the Park City on Bark in the Park Night, presented by Paws 'N Effect. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a B.B. Bobblehead, presented by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
