Sugar Land struck first in the second inning on a solo home run to left center-field by Chris Wallace off of Ducks starter Ian Marshall. Another run in the second on Travis Scott's sacrifice fly to right extended the lead to 2-0.
The Ducks rallied for a run in the ninth against John Lujan on Bryan Sabatella's RBI fielder's choice. However, a groundout to short by Delta Cleary, Jr. stranded the tying run on base.
Skeeters starter Josh Geer (2-1) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing seven hits while striking out seven. Marshall (3-3) suffered the hard luck loss, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts. John Lujan picked up his sixth save despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth.
Sabatella, Lew Ford, Randy Ruiz and Cody Puckett each had two hits to lead the Flock.
Long Island and Sugar Land continue their six-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field. Right-hander Mickey Jannis toes the rubber for the Ducks against Skeeters southpaw Roy Merritt. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks' official YouTube channel.
