Revs Held Silent Offensively As Patriots Complete Sweep

The York Revolution were shut out for the first time on the young season, 2-0 by the Somerset Patriots on Sunday afternoon in front of 5,816 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots complete the three-game sweep, while handing York a fifth consecutive loss, as the Revs slip to 3-7 after a 3-2 start. York will look to regroup and go for its first road win of the season on Tuesday night in Lancaster in the first of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Despite several deep fly balls, the Revs managed just two hits, being held to their season-low for the second time in the three games at Somerset. Mikey Reynolds rapped a two-out double down the left field line in the third, and Willie Cabrera led off the fourth inning with a single as York's only two knocks. Somerset pitchers retired the final 18 batters of the game, the longest single-game streak against the Revs in franchise history.

York's best chance came following Reynolds' double in the third. Trailing 1-0, Brandon Boggs drove a fly ball to deep straightaway center, but Somerset center fielder Jonny Tucker made a great running grab in front of the 402-foot sign to maintain his team's lead.

Somerset scored a first inning run as Tucker led off the home half with a double down the third base line, moved to third on a bunt single by Nate Spears, and scored on a fielder's choice ground ball off the bat of Thomas Neal.

Greg Hopkins added to the lead with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth. Hopkins now owns two of Somerset's three home runs on the season.

Patriots starter Lucas Irvine (1-1) earned the win, going six innings. He did not walk a batter, as the Revs' two hits served as their only base runners of the afternoon.

Buddy Boshers, Edwin Quirarte, and Jon Hunton (third save) all followed with perfect innings out of a Somerset bullpen that has now allowed just three earned runs in 32.0 innings on the season.

Mike McClendon (0-1) turned in a solid effort but suffered the loss for York. The righty was charged with two runs on five hits over five innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is now seven-to-zero through two starts.

Matt Neil retired all five batters faced in relief. Edward Paredes faced one batter in his season debut, allowing a double to James Skelton with two outs in the seventh. That runner was stranded as Julio DePaula made his season debut with York, retiring all four batters faced.

It was York's quickest game of the young season at two hours and seven minutes.

Somerset improves to 6-3 with their fourth consecutive victory.

Notes: The Revs were held to a combined three runs in the series at Somerset, matching their lowest series total in franchise history for the fourth time. The last time it occurred was July 14-16, 2009 vs. Southern Maryland. The five-game skid is their longest since dropping a club record-tying seven straight, August 16-23, 2013. It is their roughest start since opening 2-7 through nine games and 3-10 through 13 games in 2012, a season in which they went on to capture a club record 79 victories.
