Revs Find More Late-Game Magic in 600th All-Time Victory

Eric Patterson broke a deadlock with a line drive home run in the bottom of the eighth as the York Revolution secured the 600th win in franchise history with a 2-1 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday night in front of 4,659 fans at Santander Stadium. The Revs have won back-to-back games and will go for a third straight victory on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Saturday night's contest featured tremendous starting pitching from York righty Matt Neil and Bridgeport right-hander Cory Riordan, as both worked deep into the game.
Bridgeport drew first blood in the top of the second on an RBI single to center by Jeudy Valdez. It was the second hit of the inning for the Bluefish, but it would also end up being their final hit of the night as Neil and the back end of the bullpen combined on a lockdown effort.
York answered right away as Telvin Nash connected on a solo homer to left center in the bottom half of the second, his sixth of the year and second in as many nights, tying the score at 1-1.
Both teams were held to just two hits before the Revs created a golden opportunity in the bottom of the seventh. After a leadoff ground rule double to right by Brandon Boggs, Bryan Pounds singled to right to put runners at the corners with no outs. Riordan recorded a pair of strikeouts and a groundout, however, keeping the game tied.
An inning later, Patterson would cash in on a line drive homer that cleared the high right field fence down the line, giving York a 2-1 lead on his 10th of the season.
Stephen Penney struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth, stranding the tying run after Welington Dotel had reached on a one-out error, as Penney notched his fifth save of the season.
Beau Vaughan (3-1) earned the win, also striking out two batters in a perfect eighth inning.
Neil was outstanding, celebrating his 29th birthday with one of his finest starts of the season in the no-decision. The righty worked seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits, while walking three and striking out six. Neil retired his final nine batters and 14 of his last 15 faced.
Riordan (5-4) suffered the loss in a complete game effort, giving up two solo homers and six total hits in eight innings, while walking just one and striking out 11 for the second time in as many starts against the Revs, tying a season-high. It marked his third consecutive start working at least eight innings and his second consecutive complete game.
