Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2010) - The York Revolution defeated the Long Island Ducks 11-10 on Tuesday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,051 at Suffolk County Sports Park.
The Ducks and Revs exchanged single runs in the game's first inning. Liu Rodriguez' RBI single in the top of the frame brought home Scott Grimes, who led off the inning with a double to left field. Long Island tied it up in the last of the inning on Robinson Cancel's RBI groundout, which scored Joey Gathright, who reached base with a bunt single.
York exploded for six runs in the top of the third off Ducks' starter Jake Dittler. 10 batters, including a two-run single by Rodriguez and a three-run homer by Steve Haake,propelled the big inning.
Long Island inched closer with a three-spot in the subsequent inning as John Rodriguez belted a RBI double and Cancel crushed a two-run homer to cut the deficit to three.
The Revs broke the game open with four runs in the top of the sixth inning off Ducks' relievers Joselo Diaz and Chris Spurling. RBI base hits by James Shanks, Ian Bladergroen and John Pachot did the damage.
The Ducks rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning highlighted by a three-run doublefrom Matt Padgett, but Brendan Monaghan grounded out and left the winning run stranded at second base to end the game.
Eric Ackerman (5-0) picked up the victory firing two shutout innings of relief, while Dittler (10-9) was charged with the loss, allowing seven hits and seven runs in three innings of work. Sean Stidfole earned his 11th save of the season, retiring Monaghan to end the game.
Cancel led the charge for Long Island with three hits and four RBI.
The Ducks and Revolution continue their four-game series on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05.
