Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 18, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks had been the hot team heading into the All-Star break, but it was the York Revolution who provided the sizzle on Friday. York defeated Long Island 9-6 before a past-capacity crowd of 6,337 at Citibank Park.
Every batter in the York lineup collected at least one hit, and five players had three hits each. The Revolution registered at least one hit in each inning of the ballgame, compiling 20 in the contest. Jason Aspito and Matt Padgett each went 3-for-5 with a home run. Ray Navarrete launched his 17th homer of the year for the Ducks, and Edgardo Alfonzo connected for his first long ball of the season in the ninth inning. Richard Hidalgo pitched in with two hits for the Flock.
Corey Thurman settled in after a rough first inning. The York righty allowed three runs on four hits to start the ballgame, but allowed just one other hit - Navarrete's fifth inning homer - the rest of the night. Thurman (6-6) finished with seven innings of work, five hits, four runs and three strikeouts. Jon Asahina (1-2) absorbed the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits in three and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Ducks and Revolution continue their three-game series on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. contest. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive foam webbed feet, courtesy of Capital One.
