
Sharks pull out victory

NEWARK, NJ - Despite some late-game base runners, the Newark Bears were unable to overcome the Camden Riversharks' three-run lead and lost 5-2 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Friday night.
The Bears collected base runners in the seventh and ninth innings, including a bases-loaded, one out situation in the seventh, but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunities.
With the score tied in the top of the fifth inning, Ron Davenport blasted a two-run home run over the right field wall to give the Riversharks a 4-2 lead. An RBI double by Bobby Gandolfo later in the inning increased the âSharks lead to 5-2.
The Riversharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Shaun Boyd smacked a triple and subsequently scored on a groundout by Davenport. A solo home run by Tyler Von Schell in the fourth advanced the Riversharks' lead to 2-0.
The Bears got on board in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice play by Ramon Nivar to score Jose Herrera and make score 2-1. The Bears then tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Herrera.
Bears lead off man Vic Guiterrez led the team offensively, going 3-4 with three singles and a run scored.
Tony Peguero (6-1) picked up the win for the Riversharks, lasting five innings and giving up two runs on five hits. Carlos Mirabal (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits over six innings of work.
