Bridgeport, CT - July 18th - The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the signing of outfielder/pitcher Steve Doetsch. The 6'2, 200 lb. Doetsch brings five seasons of professional baseball experience to the Bluefish.
The Atlanta Braves selected Doetsch, 24, in the 14th round of the 2003 draft. He played for three different teams in the Braves organization between the rookie and single-A level. He started his career with the rookie-level Braves hitting .320 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs and eleven doubles in 60 games. His achievements earned him a spot on the Gulf Coast League All-Star team that season.
After leaving the Braves organization in 2006, Doetsch played for the Road Warriors of the Atlantic League. In 113 games under manager and current Bluefish Bench Coach Jeff Scott, the St. Petersburg, FL resident hit .284 with 22 home runs, 21 doubles and 65 RBIs. He also finished second in the league in triples with seven and won a spot on the Atlantic League All-Star team.
Doetsch began 2008 with the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals Advanced-A). He went two-for-24 with two RBIs and three runs in eleven games. He also pitched 2.1 innings of relief with the Gulf Coast League Nationals (rookie league).
Infielder Wilson Batista, signed in March, also joins the Bluefish this week. He has seen time at the single-A level through AAA for the Mets. In 2005, Batista had a career high 74 runs, 131 hits, 12 home runs and 50 RBIs between single-A Hagerstown and single-A St. Lucie.
