
Bluefish sink Pats

Bridgewater, NJ - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 13-4 before 7,047 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Bluefish took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Center fielder Travis Ezi singled and scored on an RBI triple by second baseman Henry Mateo. After third baseman Luis Lopez reached on a fielder's choice, first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a two-run home run (18).
Somerset answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning. First baseman Vito Chiaravalloti doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by right fielder Matt Hagen to make the score 3-1.
Bridgeport added to the lead with a run in the top of the third inning. Right fielder Ryan Bear singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by left fielder Branden Florence for a 4-1 lead.
The Bluefish continued to extend the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Mateo singled, Lopez reached on a fielder's choice, and Hoorelbeke followed with a two-run triple to make the score 6-1.
Somerset scored in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run by left fielder Michael Ryan (14).
Patriots cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Third baseman Gera Alvarez reached on an error and scored on a two-run home run by designated hitter Josh Pressley (16) to make the score 6-4.
Bridgeport answered with four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Designated hitter Jay Caligiuri singled, catcher Brian Munhall was hit by a pitch, and Ezi followed with an RBI single. Mateo then hit a three run home run (3) for a 10-4 advantage. The Bluefish added three more runs on a bases clearing double by Hoorelbeke in the top of the ninth inning.
Bridgeport starter Eric DuBose (6-2) picked up the win, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and four strikeouts in six innings pitched. Patriots starter Brian Adams (6-5) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on ten hits in four innings pitched.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The game includes a Post Game Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Saint Peter's University Hospital.
