Revolution Visit New York City FC on Saturday Night
August 27, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (15-3-4; 49 pts.) have their sights set on a ninth win in 10 games as they visit New York City FC (9-6-4; 31 pts.) on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on TV38, myRITV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
The first-place Revolution, currently 15 points clear atop the Eastern Conference table and seven points ahead in the Supporters' Shield race, carry a nine-game unbeaten run into their second of three meetings with New York City this season. Following a pair of home victories in Foxborough, the Revolution, 6-2-3 on the road this season, travel to Yankee Stadium one win away from surpassing the club record for road wins in a season. A win on Saturday would also give New England five consecutive road wins for the first time in club history. However, New York City poses a tough test for the Revolution as the Bronx Blues have collected six consecutive home victories dating back to the club's last home loss, a 3-2 defeat against New England on June 19 at Red Bull Arena.
New England's red-hot attack continues to pace MLS in goals (44) and assists (36), boosted by a four-goal outburst against FC Cincinnati last Saturday. Polish striker Adam Buksa registered his second brace of the season, while Tajon Buchanan and Emmanuel Boateng each netted a goal. Buksa, who has scored 10 goals this season, remains within striking distance of Gustavo Bou's team-best 12 tallies. Bou and Buksa rank tied for second and tied for fifth, respectively, in the MLS Golden Boot race entering the final third of the MLS season.
Veteran defender Andrew Farrell is set to add to his list of club milestones, as the ninth-year center back is poised to become the Revolution's all-time leader in MLS games played with his 262nd appearance. Already the club's all-time leader in league starts and minutes, Farrell has started all 22 games for the Revs and leads MLS in minutes played this season. Next to him on the backline is New York City native Henry Kessler, whose next appearance will be his 40th in MLS action. Goalkeeper Matt Turner, who was named the MLS All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player on Wednesday night, owns a 3-2-2 all-time record against NYCFC, including a seven-save effort in the June 19 victory highlighted by a penalty-kick denial in the 12th minute.
The Revs' defense will match up against one of the league's top strikers in NYCFC's Valentin Castellanos. The 22-year-old Argentinian paces the league in shots (86) and shots on target (38), with three goals and two assists over his last four matches. Head Coach Ronny Deila's side is backstopped by goalkeeper Sean Johnson, who owns five clean sheets this season. New England has won the last two meetings between the regional rivals and owns an 8-5-4 record in the series.
