Revolution Tee Off On Crabs Pitching In Thursday Romp

The York Revolution improved to 14-12 in the Atlantic League's second half Thursday evening at home against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, pounding out a season-high 18 hits in a 9-1 victory. Every Rev batter collected a hit in the contest, and five Revs enjoyed multi-hit nights.

After erasing a 4-0 deficit to win 6-5 a night ago, York wasted no time on Thursday, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first. After a Jose Constanza (4-for-6) leadoff ground rule double to right field and a Wilson Valdez walk, each runner advanced on a stolen base. With two out, Bryan Pounds (2-for-4, BB) delivered when his bat died a hero, a jam shot single to center which scored both runners.

Southern Maryland immediately responded in the second, when Casey Frawley connected on his seventh homer of 2015, a solo shot to left-center to make it a 2-1 game. The SOMD momentum was short-lived however, after the Revolution pieced together a nine-batter, five-hit, three-run bottom of the second, including a RBI bunt single from Valdez and a run-scoring liner to right by Eric Patterson. Revs all-time hit leader Andres Perez led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

York tacked on another in the fourth, when Brandon Boggs (2-for-4) socked his eighth dinger of the season over the big wall in left field. (Switch-hitting as a righty.) After a pair of two-out singles by Mikey Reynolds (2-for-4) and Perez, Reynolds eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it a 7-1 game. It was 8-1 York after three singles in the 6th, (Perez, Telvin Nash, Constanza). Nash made it that every York batter had a hit in the game, while Constanza drove in the run. Three consecutive hits in the seventh extended the lead to 9-1, when Pounds doubled, Reynolds singled, and Perez smacked a RBI double to the right field gap. Perez was 4-for-4 with a walk, and is 7-for-8 to start this series against Southern Maryland.

The final line on Blue Crabs starter Brian Burres in 3.2 innings pitched was 10 hits, seven runs all earned, with five walks and four strikeouts. York's Rommie Lewis turned in another better-than-solid start, scattering six harmless hits in seven innings around the Frawley homer. Allowing just the one earned run and a walk, he struck out four to earn his team-leading eighth winning decision of the season. Relievers Beau Vaughan and Edward Paredes each tossed a scoreless inning to end it; Paredes struck out the side in the ninth as the final blow.

Notes: The Revs have won seven consecutive home games, tying the fifth longest streak in club history and moving within three victories of matching the all-time record. It is York's longest home winning streak since a record 10-game streak set August 19-September 1, 2011. With four stolen bases, the Revs have stolen 21 bags over their last eight games, including three games of at least four steals. With two steals, Valdez becomes the first in Revs history to reach 80 stolen bases in a York uniform. York improves to 4-1 against Southern Maryland in the second half. Lewis is now 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA over his last five starts. Boggs' homer is his fourth in eight games. The Revs tied a season-high with nine runs scored while setting a season-high with 18 hits. The eight-run victory is their most lopsided win of the season, ahead of a 7-0 victory at Southern Maryland eight days earlier. York will sign right-hander Matt DeSalvo to start Friday's contest, as the former York All-Star and postseason hero will appear in a Revs uniform for a fourth season (2010-11, 2014). Southern Maryland counters with righty Daryl Thompson (4-2, 2.77) with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. It is Back to School Night presented by Kid to Kid, featuring a Drawstring Bag Giveaway presented by PSECU to the first 1,000 kids.
