Barnstormers Roll In Bridgeport

August 6, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

It started with some lucky breaks. Then, the offense really got rolling.

By the time it ended, the Barnstormers had piled up 11 runs and tied a season-high with 18 hits in an 11-4 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish Thursday evening at Harbor Yard.

The win, the 11th in the last 13 games for Lancaster, kept the Barnstormers three games ahead of York in the Freedom Division's second half race.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Yusuke Kajimoto and Lance Zawadzki each had three hits to pace the attack.

After Wellington Dotel scored Josh Prince with a single to the hole at shortstop in the bottom of the first, the Barnstormers were able to reach Kameron Loe (4-3) for five singles in the top of the second.

Mike McDade got the inning off to a false start with a blooper to left, but he was erased on the front end of a double play. Cavazos-Galvez yanked a solid single to left to restart the attack. He was able to scamper to third when Zawadzki pulled a ground single through the right side. Luke Hughes tied the game with a dunker to right, and Anderson Feliz beat out a "Baltimore chop" on the right side of the diamond for a 2-1 edge.

Kajimoto doubled to deep center to open the third, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on McDade's sacrifice fly to deep right. Cavazos-Galvez opened the fourth with his 13th homer of the season, a towering blast to left on an 0-2 pitch from Loe as the Barnstormers extended the lead to 4-1.

Bryan Morgado (3-5) had one more scare. In the sixth, Prince reached base when Zawadzki made a quick bobble on a grounder to the hole. Prince broke early for second, and Morgado got him in a rundown. Again, Prince escaped, this time on a bad throw, and moved ahead to second. Two outs later, Andres Rodriguez doubled down the third base line to bring the Bluefish within two. Scott Gracey struck out Wilson Batista to end the threat.

Lancaster broke the game open with five runs in the top of the seventh. The first two scored when Kajimoto's sinking liner to left center was trapped by Wes Wallace. Kent Matthes and Cavazos-Galvez also singled home runs, and the final came home on a bases loaded walk to Zawadzki.

The series continues on Friday with newcomer Madison Boer, a right-hander, to make the start for Lancaster against lefty Robert Carson (2-0).

NOTES: Zach Collier has hit safely in seven straight...Kajimoto is 12-for-22 with five doubles in his last five games...The Barnstormers are now 26-3 against Bridgeport over the last two years...Morgado has won three straight starts and is 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA as a starter overall...Lancaster has reached double digits in runs against Bridgeport four times on the season.
