Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT- August 6, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-10, 42-54) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (17-9, 45-51) 11-4 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday night to even up the four game series between Second Half division leaders. Lancaster picked up 18 hits on the night, matching the most allowed by the Bridgeport pitching staff since June 20th at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, New York when the Long Island Ducks had the same tally in a 12-6 victory.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Kameron Loe (4-3) suffered the loss, pitching six and two-thirds innings, surrendering nine runs on 13 hits, walking two, striking out five while giving up one home run and a wild pitch. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Bryan Morgado (3-5) earned the win, tossing five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs (one earned run) on four hits, walking one, and striking out five.
Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Morgado in the bottom half of the first inning on an RBI infield single by Welington Dotel, plating Josh Prince who led off the frame with a base knock of his own. Lancaster answered right back in the top of the second with two runs and five hits off Loe to take their first lead of the night at 2-1 and never looked back. Luke Hughes and Anderson Feliz picked up run-scoring singles, bringing in Brain Cavazos-Galvez and Lance Zawadzki. The rally for the Barnstormers came with two outs and the bases empty. A sacrifice fly by Mike McDade in the third gave the visitors a 3-1 edge, and a solo home run by Cavazos-Galvez to left off Loe in the fourth that completely went out of the entire Ballpark at Harbor Yard gave Lancaster a 4-1 cushion.
Bridgeport got back to within two runs at 4-2 in the sixth on a two-out, RBI double by Andres Rodriguez, bringing in Prince who reached on an error to open the inning. Rodriguez was making his first appearance in the lineup for the 'Fish since coming out of the game on July 26th against the Long Island Ducks after being hit by a pitch. Lancaster would break the game open in the top of the seventh inning sending 11 men to the plate, scoring five runs on five hits to take the commanding 9-2 lead. Bridgeport pushed a run across in the bottom of the ninth on a one out, majestic solo home run to left by Wes Wallace, his first hit as a member of the Bluefish since being signed yesterday to play in the Park City. Prince, Dotel, Rodriguez, Wallace, Jobduan Morales, and Matt Burns each picked up one of the six hits for the 'Fish on the evening.
Bridgeport continues their series with the Lancaster Barnstormers at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, August 7th. It will be Ghostbusters Night, featuring the Ecto-1A vehicle which will be on display. Fans will have a chance to take pictures, and players will wear Ghostbusters Specialty Jerseys to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
