FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution continue the busy start to the season on Wednesday night, taking on Costa Rican side Liga Deportiva Alajuelense in the first leg of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16. The 6:00 p.m. ET match at Gillette Stadium airs nationally on FOX Sports 2 in English and TUDN in Spanish. Listen locally on the radio via 1260 AM "Nossa Radio USA" in Portuguese.

The Revolution have history against their Round of 16 opponent from Costa Rica, as New England and LD Alajuelense will meet in the Concacaf Champions Cup for the third time, and for the first time at Gillette Stadium. Alajuelense owns a 2-1-1 record in four previous matches against New England, having eliminated the Revolution in the 2003 and 2006 Concacaf Champions Cup tournaments. New England's lone victory in the series came on the road at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in 2003, a 3-1 triumph. Including Round One, the Revolution are 4-5-1 in their 10 previous Concacaf Champions Cup matches, with a 3-2-1 record against Central American opponents.

LD Alajuelense qualified for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup as the 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup champions, marking their 26th appearance in the competition. The Costa Rican side are two-time winners of the Champions Cup, claiming the title in 1986 and 2004. LD Alajuelense owns a 6-2-3 record across 11 matches played in the Costa Rican First Division this season, most recently earning a 4-0 win over Santos de Guápiles on March 1.

New England advanced to the Round of 16 with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Panamanian side CA Independiente. Forward Tomás Chancalay tallied goals in each match, including the game winner in the first leg, earning him a place on the Concacaf Champions Cup Round One Best XI. In the entire Round One Series, Chancalay tallied eight shots, while his next goal will give the Argentine the most Champions Cup goals in team history.

Nacho Gil and Mark-Anthony Kaye also scored in the second leg at Gillette Stadium, both players' first goals in a Revolution uniform. Nacho Gil was voted Player of the Match in the 3-0 triumph on Feb. 29, as his goal was assisted by older brother Carles Gil. Kaye's first goal in the tournament came in his team-leading ninth Concacaf Champions Cup appearance. The Canadian midfielder previously featured in the tournament for Los Angeles FC and the Colorado Rapids before joining New England in 2023.

Of the 22 teams competing in Round One, New England was one of only three teams that did not concede a goal, posting two shutouts with Henrich Ravas in net for both. The Slovakia international made three saves across the two legs. Along with Ravas, defenders Dave Romney and DeJuan Jones also played every minute of those shutout performances and have also started both MLS regular season matches to date. Forward Giacomo Vrioni, who logged assists in each leg of Round One, will be unavailable for the midweek match due to yellow card accumulation.
