Revitalized Offense Helps 'Hawks Bounce Back

June 23, 2016 - American Association (AA)
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

In the ten games prior Fargo-Moorhead cracked more than four runs just twice, Thursday's game broke that trend with the team putting up double digits in a 10-1 victory over Sioux Falls. It was an all-around well-played game to close the series at home with the pitching and defense also providing a solid boost.

In the first three innings the 'Hawks jumped out and hung five total runs on the Canaries. Chad Mozingo led off with a hit in the first and scored with the following batter, Ryan Pineda, hitting a double. Pineda was just getting started as he finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs. He came home when Josh Mazzola continued his great series with an RBI single. The second had Pineda driving another run in and then scoring on a double by Keury De La Cruz.

The lead stretched again in the fifth inning when Kes Carter hit a solo shot to make it 6-0. The home team added two more in the seventh with Mozingo scoring on an RBI by De La Cruz, and the latter scored thanks to K.D. Kang.

Tyler Herron once again was a commanding force on the mound for F-M. He went 7.1 innings, and allowed only four hits and one run. The road team did put a run on him in the eighth, but by then it was 8-1. The RedHawks added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the seal on the victory.

Herron is now 5-1 on the year and the 'Hawks are 17-15. Shawn Blackwell moves to 3-3 with the loss and the Canaries go to 12-21. Sioux Falls will host Laredo for their next game on Friday, and the RedHawks will travel to Kansas City.
