
Explorers Open Series In Wichita With Loss

Wichita, KS - The Wichita Wingnuts took game one of the three game series against the X's, with a score of 6-3 at Laurence-Dumont Stadium.
Wichita recorded the first runs of the contest, chalking up three runs in the bottom of the third inning. With two men on and one out, T.J. Mittelstaed lined a triple to right-field, scoring the first two runs. T.J. Mittelstaed crossed home later in the inning, on a Richard Prigatano RBI double.
Sioux City was able to cut the deficit by two runs in the sixth inning. With two outs and runners at second and third, X's second baseman Noah Perio ripped a base-hit to right, allowing both runners to score on the play.
The Wingnuts extended their lead in the sixth and seventh. Wichita's Richard Prigatano added a run in the sixth with a solo-shot. In the seventh, Wichita notched two more runs. Back-to-back RBI singles by Brent Clevlen and T.J. Mittelstaed widened the lead to 6-2 after seven innings of play.
Explorers managed to score one more run in the game, off a Ralph Henriquez solo home run. Final score, Wingnuts 6, Sioux City 3 at Laurence-Dumont Stadium.
Sioux City's newly signed right-hander Bryan Escanio (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs in 6.1 innings pitched.
Wingnuts starting pitcher Tim Brown (3-2) received the victory on the night, going a solid seven innings with only two runs allowed. Wichita closer Frankie Reed (s-7) got the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
