Revenge Not the Top Priority, But Revs Haven't Forgotten Loss to Dynamo

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Despite suffering a humbling 4-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo in the season opener back on March 8, revenge isn't the New England Revolution's primary motivating factor as the club prepares for the rematch on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium.

But, naturally, the memories of that result do provide a little extra fuel.

"I don't think guys forget the fact that we went there and we lost 4-0," said goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, who made several fine saves at BBVA Compass Stadium despite the score line. "We've got to make [Gillette Stadium] a fortress. We want them to come in here and we want to let them know that we're going to be ready to play."

There are lessons to be learned from the previous meeting, when Houston scored three times in the opening 23 minutes - including the winner just 62 seconds into the match - to put the Revs in an insurmountable hole. Will Bruin and Boniek Garcia did the early damage, while Omar Cummings capped the scoring in stoppage time with a fortuitous deflection.

Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall maintained the clean sheet, but not without the Revs threatening on several occasions. Both A.J. Soares and Diego Fagundez hit the woodwork, while Jerry Bengtson and Kelyn Rowe misfired on quality chances.

"I think we'll look at it in how easily we were penetrated in the first 10-15 minutes of that game," said Revolution head coach Jay Heaps. "And then show how we had a lot of chances to at least get one on the board. I think the game itself was not approached properly to start, but then as the game went on, we created all our chances."

Entering this weekend's rematch, both sides are looking to get back on track after frustrating results last Saturday. The Revs suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of D.C. United, while the 10-man Dynamo was overcome late by FC Dallas in a 4-1 setback.

"They've been getting some decent results. Obviously this past weekend they didn't do too well, but we didn't either," said Andrew Farrell, who missed the first meeting with Houston through injury. "It's two teams that are going to look to get back on the right path and it's going to be a good one."
