Brampton Steelheads News Release

Returning home, the Steelheads continued their good play as they took on the Perterborough Petes in a Sunday matinee and extend their point streak to 8 games.

First Period

The Steelheads were looking to extend their point streak, having recorded 11 points in their last 6 games. Having just been acquired earlier in the day from Niagara, forward Jake Uberti was making his Steelheads debut, starting on a line with Luca DelBelBelluz and James Hardie.

The first period featured some tight checking play by both teams. The Steelheads were able to get some momentum in the later part of the frame, with Owen Beck getting a chance on a quick break, but he was stopped by the right pad of Michael Simpson. Then, with 3:40 left in the period, Hardie sent Uberti in on a quick break of his own, but Simpson once again came up big for the Petes.

Finally, with 1:39 left in the first, DelBelBelluz was able to break in and back off Peterborough's defence, dropping the puck to Hardie, who was able to step into the slot and rifle it past Simpson, giving the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Chas Sharpe recorded the other assist on Hardie's 24th of the season.

Second Period

The second period featured a more uptempo pace. Just past the 6 minute mark, after some 4-on-4 play, the Steelheads found themselves on a the power play, where Hardie and DelBelBelluz were able to break in on a short 2-on-1. Hardie made a great pass across the seem to DelBelBelluz, who snuck it past the outstretched arm of Simpson to take a 2-0 lead. Uberti picked up the second assist on the goal, and in doing so, recorded his first point as a Steelhead.

Later on the power play, the Petes were able to capitalize on a broken play and Joe Carroll snuck one past Roman Basran to make it a 2-1 game. J.R. Avon and Emmett Sproule picked up the assists.

With 4:02 left in the second and Mississauga on a power play, Charlie Callaghan had a great burst of speed, cut to the net and was stopped by Simpson. However, Hardie was there to clean up the rebound, putting the Steelheads up 3-1. Sharpe picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

Basran made what was his best save at the time with 3:15 left in the period. As Petes defenceman Josh Kavanagh snuck in from the point and received a cross-ice pass on the back door, he was thwarted by the left pad of Basran, who was able to move quickly to make the cross-crease save.

The Steelheads were able to get another one late in the frame with 47.8 seconds remaining. As they broke in on a 3-on-2, Zakary Lavoie was able to move it across to Owen Beck, who beat Simpson to extend the lead to 4-1.

The third period started with a bang for the Peterborough Petes. Just 46 seconds into the final frame and with the Petes on on early power play, Avon broke in and cut the Steelhead's lead to 2. Emmett Sproule picked up the only assist on the goal that brought the score to 4-2.

Roman Basran one-upped his earlier save with a Save of the Year candidate, making a beautiful windmill save on Carroll, who was streaking down the left wing.

With 2:17 left and the net empty for the Petes, Uberti received a pass from Beck and Uberti potted the empty netter to seal the victory for the Steelheads, 5-2. In sealing the victory, Uberti scored his first goal as a Steelhead, adding to his earlier assist to have a 2 point game in his first in a Mississauga uniform.
