Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
ST. PAUL, MN- The Sioux Falls Canaries opened up a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints on Friday night at CHS Field. Jason Repko hit his ninth home run of the season, and Joe Bircher allowed two unearned runs over six innings in the Canaries 5-2 loss.
Bircher (3-4, 3.43 ERA) looked good in his six innings of work, allowing his only two runs on the night to score after throwing errors from third baseman RJ Perucki and catcher Richard Stock. The southpaw picked up the no decision after leaving the game in a 2-2 tie after six innings.
Saints starting pitcher Robert Coe (9-3, 2.70 ERA) earned the complete game victory after holding the Canaries to just two runs on three hits while striking out seven batters.
Coe's only mistake of the night came in the top of the fourth inning when Repko sent a blast over the left field wall to give the Canaries a 2-1 lead.
St. Paul tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, and took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh after Nate Hanson hit a two-run home run (1). Alonzo Harris capped off the three-run inning with a solo homer, his 9th of the season.
The loss on Friday night was the seventh straight for Sioux Falls, their longest losing streak of the season. RHP Shawn Blackwell (2-9, 4.40 ERA) will take the mound for the Canaries on Saturday night at 7:05 PM.
