Reno Aces News Release
Reno, NV - The Reno Aces (29-24, 73-55) scored 10 runs in the fifth inning of Wednesday night's 15-3 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas (23-30, 55-73) at Greater Nevada Field.
Reno trailed 3-1 before an absolute explosion in the heart of the game. 14 Aces hitters came to the plate in the 10-run fifth, a furious frame that included two separate doubles from Jake McCarthy. Pavin Smith singled and doubled in the inning while Jorge Barrosa reached twice. It was a scorebook altering sort of shift that gave the BLC Nine a resounding lead.
McCarthy, Smith, Barrosa, and Emmanuel Rivera each had three hits in the win. Rivera was a double away from the cycle with his fifth homer of the year, a triple, and a single. Barrosa continued his destruction of the Chihuahuas with two hits and two runs knocked in. Barrosa has driven in 14 runs against El Paso this season. The Aces smacked 14 hits and drew an additional nine free passes while consistently delivering with runners in scoring position (7-for-13).
José Ruiz, Tyler Ferguson, and Austin Pope delivered 3 2/3 scoreless innings behind Blake Walston, who struck out a season high eight batters in 5 1/3 innings. Walston allowed three earned runs and notched his 10th win of the year. The Aces and Chihuahuas continue their six-game set Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. PT from Greater Nevada Field.
