SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Reno Aces fall for the second time in as many days, dropping to the Sacramento River Cats, 9-4, on Friday night.

Juniel Querecuto reached base safely for the team-high 19th-straight game with his walk in the second inning.

Ben DeLuzio put forth a 2-for-4 performance at the dish, recording his first multi-hit game since returning from the injured list.

Aces' starter Humberto Castellanos registered his first career hit with a single against River Cats' reliever Gerson Garabito. The right-hander joined Josh Green as the only Reno pitchers to record a hit this season.

Edgar Arredondo made his Triple-A debut with the Aces, tossing 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Aces took an early 1-0 lead in the second. After singles by Drew Ellis and Ben DeLuzio to put runners on first and third, a wild pitch brought Ellis in for the first run.

Reno bumped its advantage to two, 2-0, in the top of the third after Ildemaro Vargas reached on an error and Andrew Young singled to start the frame. In the ensuing at-bat, Seth Beer knocked Vargas in on a single to center.

Sacramento knotted the game at two on an RBI single in both the fourth and fifth innings from Jaylin Davis and Thairo Estrada.

In the bottom of the sixth, Davis hit a two-run home run to right to give the River Cats a 4-2 advantage.

Reno's all-time hits leader Ildemaro Vargas recorded his first base knock with the team since 2019, rocking a single to left field to start the seventh frame. After Young took a pitch off of the elbow to put runners on first and second, Drew Ellis pulled the Aces to within one, 4-3, with an RBI double down the right-field line. McCarthy tied the game at four in the following at-bat with an RBI groundout to short, knocking in Young from third.

The River Cats scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead before tacking on two more in the eighth to take a 9-4 lead into the final frame.

Reno nearly mounted a comeback in the ninth, scoring a pair of runs on a Jamie Ritchie two-run single to left to slash the Aces' deficit to three, 9-6, but Sacramento closed the door with runners on first and second.

Reno returns to action on Saturday against the Sacramento River Cats, with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. PT. Saturday's contest can be heard on renoaces.com or locally on KPLY 630 AM with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
