Reno Bighorns Host NBA Green Week Event at School

RENO, NEV.- The Reno Bighorns staff joined Truckee Meadows Lawn & Landscape and the Garden Shop Nursery to host an NBA D-League Green Week event at Roy Gomm Elementary School Friday morning. Members of the front office staff, coaching staff and Bruno the Bighorn joined students to plant trees and flowers at the school.

Ten students were chosen by Principal KayAnn Pilling to participate in the event and plant two black pine trees and 20 pansy flowers throughout the school grounds. All trees and flowers were donated by the Garden Nursery Shop.

Geoff Faubion, owner of Truckee Meadows Lawn & Landscape, was on hand to oversee the planting as well as provide insight to the importance of being passionate about the environment. The kids learned about process of planting and gardening, as well as the environmental impact of actively providing upkeep for our planet. 2012 NBA Green Week presented by Sprint will takes place April 4 to 11. Throughout Green Week, league and team greening efforts include auctions to support environmental protection organizations, public service announcements, hands-on community service projects, recycling programs, green giveaways, promotions to encourage fans to "go green," and more.
