Today's Game: The Aces (60-56) enter Friday night's contest seven games back of the first-place Fresno Grizzlies. Greg Gross will send right-hander Jake Buchanan to the mound to face the Las Vegas 51's in the second game of a four-game set. Ildemaro Vargas and Chris Owings will take on Las Vegas righty Cody Martin.
Last Game: Ildemaro Vargas once again was the lone bright spot for the Aces offense. With what was likely his last at-bat of the evening, Vargas extended his franchise-best hit streak to 33 games with a single in the top of the 8th inning. His streak is the longest in the Pacific Coast League since Joey Cora in 1989. During the streak, Vargas is batting .374 (55-for-147), with 11 doubles, 14 RBI and an OBP of .421. He has surpassed the previous franchise mark held by Jake Elmore. Tonight against the 51's, Vargas went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the Aces 10-4 defeat.
Streaking: Ildemaro Vargas has hit in 33 consecutive games, the longest hit streak in franchise history. During the streak, he is batting .374, (55-for-147), with 24 runs scored, 11 doubles, 14 RBI and an OBP of .421. There have only been five players in Aces history with streaks of 20+ games. Jake Elmore (31, 2012), Ildemaro Vargas (31, 2018), Tony Abreu (24, 2011), Chris Owings (23, 2013), and Ketel Marte (22, 2017). In 2017, Ketel Marte went 37-for-98, .378, with nine 2B, three 3B, one HR and 16 RBI from April 29 through May 22.

CO : Since being optioned by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chris Owings has torn up the Pacific Coast League. Over his three-game stretch, Owings is 6-for-12, with five runs scored, two doubles, one triple and two RBI. Last night, he went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. During his 2013 PCL MVP campaign, Owings hit .330 over 125 games and 51 extra-base hits.
Once Friend, Now Foe : Zach Borenstein has feasted on Aces pitching in 2018. The long-time Aces outfielder seems to be comfortable in the southern part of the state. Against the Aces, he is batting .452 (19-for-42), in 13 games with four home runs and 18 RBI. Last night, Borenstein went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Last year with the Aces, Borenstein hit .279 in 122 games and launched 24 home runs.
Lebron : On this date in 1974, Jorge Lebron, believed to be the youngest professional player ever, makes his debut for the Auburn Phillies, Philadelphia's short season-A affiliate. The fourteen-year-old shortstop played three games before returning to Puerto Rico to finish junior high school.
Players Weekend : "Return of the Mac," "305 J," "Parkman," "Freight Train," and "Unicorn" are a few of the nicknames that will appear on the back of D-backs uniforms during Players' Weekend, presented by Valspar Stain, and Brad Boxberger will be the first-ever MLB player to have emojis for his name on the back of his jersey. The event returns for its second year for all games scheduled from August 24-26, it was announced today by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
