From the Notes
Schugel Starts: RHP A.J. Schugel's results have been much better over his last two starts. In his last outing, he gave up two runs - one earned - on five hits over six innings in Oklahoma City. It was his first win with the Aces since April 28 at Fresno, snapping a personal four-game skid with Reno. The six-inning performance was also his first quality start with Reno. Over his last two outings combined, he's 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA (2 ER in 9 IP). He took a tough-luck loss at Colorado Springs on August 15 when his start was cut short due to a lengthy rain delay. He threw three innings of one-run, one-hit ball in the loss.
Fleck Firing: Aces reliever Kaleb Fleck has lowered his ERA from 3.93 to 2.83 over his last nine appearances. He's allowed just one unearned run since August 2, spanning 13 1/3 innings. He's allowed nine hits (8 singles, 1 double) and four walks (2 intentional) while striking out an impressive 20 batters during the stretch.
Hardened Clay: Last night's starter, Caleb Clay, picked up his first win in nearly a month. It was his team-leading eighth win, despite walking three and striking out none for the second consecutive start. Prior to last night, Clay's previous two outings were less-than-stellar, both three-inning performances in which he allowed a combined 14 runs - 11 earned - on 15 hits.
What's the word around Reno?
