Wappingers Falls, NY (9/7/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades concluded the 2015 New York-Penn League season as they defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 7-1 on Monday evening at Dutchess Stadium.

Hudson Valley left fielder Joe McCarthy led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and moved to third base on a groundout from shortstop Michael Russell. Designated hitter Alex Schmidt then reached base after striking out on a wild pitch, allowing McCarthy to score. Catcher Taylor Hawkins moved Schmidt over to third base on a single and scored on a RBI ground out from right fielder Jose Paez, giving the Renegades a 2-0 lead.

That lead grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning as Russell hit a solo home run over the left field foul pole. Aberdeen scored their lone run of the night in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run from catcher Alex Murphy, cutting the Hudson Valley lead to 3-1.

McCarthy reached base on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning and then stole second base. After a Russell single and a Schmidt walk, Hawkins drove a pitch from Aberdeen reliever Garrett Cleavinger over the left field wall for a grand slam, extending the Hudson Valley lead to 7-0. Hawkins finished the night going three-for-four with four RBI and one run scored.

The Renegades did not look back from there as after starting pitcher Roel Ramirez tossed four no-hit innings, relievers John Williams (2-1), Tyler Brashears and Reece Karalus combined to allow just two hits in five innings pitched.

Williams earned the win as he allowed a run off of one hit in two innings of work while striking out three batters. Aberdeen's starting pitcher Patrick Baker (1-1) took the loss as he allowed two runs off three hits in two innings pitched.

Notes: The Renegades capped off the 2015 season with a record of 39-37 and in two years, Hudson Valley is 85-67 under manager Tim Parenton. This is the 14th time in 22-year history of the Renegades that the team has posted a .500 or better record, including seven of the last eight seasons.
