Renegades Split in Shutout Doubleheader

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Hudson Valley Renegades split a doubleheader on Sunday with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws at ShoreTown Ballpark. The Renegades won the opener 2-0, while the BlueClaws took the nightcap 4-0.
In the opener, T.J. Sikkema made his first professional pitching appearance since July 21, 2019 and was perfect in 2.0 innings. The left-hander, who was the 38th overall pick in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft by the Yankees, retired all six batters he faced, striking out three and throwing 26 pitches, 20 for strikes.
The Renegades took the lead in the top of the second after Ben Brown walked the bases loaded and Aldenis Sanchez delivered a two-run single to left. That was one of just two hits in the game for Hudson Valley, but it was all they would need.
Edgar Barclay (3-2) spun 3.2 shutout innings of relief, striking out five and allowing just one hit. Tanner Myatt closed out the win with 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his first save. Sikkema, Barclay and Myatt combined to one-hit the BlueClaws, the second one-hitter of the year thrown by Hudson Valley.
In the nightcap, the BlueClaws took the lead in the bottom of the first against right-hander Blas Castaño. An RBI single for Jared Carr scored Ethan Wilson to give Jersey Shore a 1-0 lead.
The BlueClaws tacked on two more in the second and another in the third off Castaño (0-3) to take a 4-0 advantage. Only two of the runs allowed by the right-hander in the game were earned, as he struck out three and walked two.
Hudson Valley threatened throughout the game, mounting a bases-loaded one-out threat in the fourth, and a second-and-third, no-out opportunity in the sixth, but was unable to score both times.
The Renegades enjoy a day off on Monday before returning to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday to begin a series with the Aberdeen IronBirds. POSTGAME NOTES: The Renegades combined to steal six bases in the doubleheader, and have now swiped a MiLB-high 69 bases this season as a team.
