Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
ROME, Ga - Beck Way set a new career high with nine strikeouts, but the Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Rome Braves 4-3 on Friday night at AdventHealth Stadium.
The Renegades took the lead two batters into the game after Everson Pereira singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Cooper Bowman RBI single off Andrew Hoffman. Hudson Valley tacked on two more in the top of the third on back-to-back sacrifice flys from Cooper Bowman and Tyler Hardman.
Way turned in a terrific outing in his second start of the year. He struck out nine and allowed two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings, becoming the first Renegades pitcher to complete five frames this season. His nine strikeouts set a new career high, surpassing the eight he had against Greensboro on Sept. 15, 2021.
Rome chipped away with a run in the second on a Landon Stephens solo home run, and an RBI double from Tyler Tolve in the fifth. The Braves went in front 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth with two runs against Edgar Barclay (1-1).
The Renegades threatened in the seventh and eighth innings against the Braves bullpen, but could not push across a run. Three Rome relievers tossed 4.0 scoreless frames to close out the game.
Pereira and Bowman each tallied two hits for the Renegades, with Bowman also driving in two. Nelvin Correa was solid in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen in back of Barclay.
In the first night of the pitch clock rules being enforced in High-A, the time of the game was two hours, 14 minutes, the shortest game of the season for Hudson Valley. There was one violation, by Rome starter Andrew Hoffman in the top of the third with Bowman at the plate.
Hudson Valley continues its series with Rome on Saturday at AdventHealth Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 5:45. RHP Will Warren (0-0, 8.10 ERA) will toe the rubber for Renegades. RHP Tanner Gordon (0-1, 6.75 ERA) takes the ball for Rome.
