Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades plated five runs early and held on late to down the Aberdeen IronBirds 6-5 on Friday night at Heritage Financial Park.
Hudson Valley scored runs in each of the first two innings to snag an early advantage. In the first, Jared Serna singled and Anthony Hall walked to place two runners on base against Zach Peek. On a double steal attempt, Samuel Basallo's throw sailed into centerfield to score Serna and hand the 'Gades a 1-0 lead.
After Peek (0-1) issued a pair of two-out walks in the second, Serna singled home Jared Wegner to double the Renegades advantage to 2-0. Hudson Valley plated three more in the third, highlighted by a two-run triple from Antonio Gómez and a run-scoring single from Christopher Familia.
The IronBirds roared back with four unanswered runs, scoring a pair in each of the fifth and sixth innings. After Joel Valdez (3-6) retired the first seven batters he faced in his outing, Adam Hall walked and Anthony Servideo singled him home to put the IronBirds on the board. Servideo later scored on a fielding error by Alexander Vargas to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Creed Willems, Isaac De Leon, and Hall recorded three straight doubles on just three pitches to score two more in the sixth inning and trimmed the Renegades lead to 5-4.
After Wegner singled and stole second base in the sixth, Marcos Cabrera singled him in to push the Renegades advantage to 6-4. Cabrera finished the night 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
Elio Prado plated the game's final run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning against Shane Gray to close out the scoring. Mason Vinyard earned his first save of the season, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
