Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades walked off the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-2 on Wednesday night at Heritage Financial Park.
In the ninth with the game tied at two, Jared Serna leads off the inning with a triple to right-center field off Antonio Velez (3-1). On the next pitch, Jesus Rodriguez singled up the middle to score Serna and hand the Renegades their seventh walk-off victory of the season.
Aberdeen plated the first two runs of the game against Justin Lange in the fourth. After Frederick Bencosme and Elio Prado hit their away aboard, Samuel Basallo singled home Bencosme to push the IronBirds forward 1-0. Creed Willems then hit a double off the wall in right field to score Prado and double the Aberdeen advantage to 2-0. Lange then struck out the next three hitters to leave two runners in scoring position. The right-hander ended up striking out five and walking three in four innings. He ended up stranding six hitters on the basepaths.
Cooper Chandler tossed four scoreless frames for Aberdeen before Hudson Valley scored twice in the sixth inning. The first two men reached against Cameron Weston who started the inning before Reese Sharp entered out of the bullpen. After a throwing error by Samuel Basallo placed two runners in scoring position, Serna scored Jared Wegner on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. With two outs in the inning, Rodriguez then singled Spencer Jones home to tie the game at two.
After Anderson Munoz struck out all four batters he faced out of the bullpen, Harrison Cohen (3-2) entered for the ninth inning. Bencosme doubled to begin the frame before Cohen retired the next three hitters to keep the game tied at two before Hudson Valley walked off the IronBirds in the bottom half of the inning.
Ben Cowles finished the night 2-for-3 with two singles to extend his on-base streak to 35 games and tie Emeel Salem's franchise record set in 2007. His is the longest active on-base streak in the minors.
