September 2, 2021 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Tropical Storm Ida caused Wednesday night's game between the Hudson Valley Renegades and Greensboro Grasshoppers to be moved to be part of a doubleheader on Thursday.
The Hoppers used an eight-run sixth inning to overtake the Gades in game one, 10-7, while Greensboro shut out the Renegades in the nightcap, 2-0.
The Gades used the long ball in the first game to build a 4-2 lead. Elijah Dunham hit a two-run home run in the first, while Anthony Volpe added a two-run shot in the second to open a 4-0 lead.
Greensboro threw single tallies on the board in the second and fourth innings to cut the lead in half. The Hoppers took over in the sixth, with home runs by Jonah Davis and William Matthiessen to highlight the outburst.
Austin Wells hit a three-run homer in the seventh to give the Gades late life. Matt Minnick took the loss to drop to 4-3.
In the nightcap, the Grasshoppers got runs in the second and third innings off Mitch Spence (7-4), who allowed five hits and three walks. He added five strikeouts.
Offensively, Eric Wagaman and Elijah Dunham doubled for Hudson Valley.
With the losses, the Renegades dropped to 63-41 and have dropped the first three games in Greensboro. The Grasshoppers (67-38) have a 3.5 game lead in the race for the second position in High-A East.
The series resumes on Friday.
Per the State of New York, the Renegades are now open at 100% capacity. Tickets continue to be a tremendous value starting as low as $6. Visit HVRenegades.com for ticket information and so much more.
