Renegades Drop a Rain-Shortened Contest to Brooklyn
July 9, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Brooklyn, NY (7/9/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 1-0 in a seven-inning, rain-shortened game on Thursday evening at MCU Park.
The lone run of the evening came in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI double from Brooklyn's right fielder Tucker Tharp.
The Renegades had a chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning as second baseman Jake Cronenworth tripled to center field to lead off the inning. But Cyclones relief pitcher Andrew Church stranded him at third by retiring three straight batters, keeping the score at 1-0.
Rain halted play with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a 37-minute rain delay, the game was called due to the weather.
Michael Velasquez (1-2) came in to relieve Renegades starter Cameron Varga and took the loss, allowing one run in three and two-thirds innings of work. Church (1-0) earned the win for Brooklyn, tossing three shutout innings of relief after Cyclones starter Blake Taylor pitched three innings. Carlos Valdez picked up his second save of the season
With the result, Hudson Valley falls to 9-10 on the season while Brooklyn improves to 14-5.
Notes: The weather has not been kind when Brooklyn and Hudson Valley have faced each other in the past couple of seasons. Last year, a game played on July 2nd between the two teams was suspended due to rain and the next day's game was cancelled for rain. That forced the teams to play a four-game series played over 48 hours in Brooklyn on July 7th through the 8th. And back on Thursday, July 2nd of this year, that evening's game in Brooklyn was delayed due to rain for almost a half hour before continuing play
The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Friday, July 10th as they host the Brooklyn Cyclones with first pitch at 7:05pm. Friday evening is "Magical Mic & His Magical Fireworks Night" as fans will get to enjoy a Fireworks Extravaganza after the conclusion of the game.
