Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

BROOKLYN, NY -- July 9, 2015 -- The Cyclones scored a single run on Thursday night, but thanks to Mother Nature and the Brooklyn pitching staff, that was all they would need. The Cyclones improved to 14-5 on the season with their 1-0 win, which came in only seven innings following a 37 minute rain delay.

After matching zeroes for the first two frames, the only action the scoreboard saw came in the bottom of the third. After a ground single, Enmanuel Zabala advanced to second on a wild pitch, and was brought home by a double sent through the left center field gap by Tucker Tharp.

The Cyclones and the Renegades would play three more scoreless innings in a pitcher's duel before a massive strike of lightning lit up the sky and a boom of thunder rattled through MCU Park, ending Brandon Brosher's at bat in the bottom of the seventh.

In their Brooklyn debuts, starting lefty Blake Taylor threw three innings, walking one and striking out two, while Andrew Church struck out four after three innings of work and took the win for the Cyclones.

Carlos Valdez was also able to squeeze in one inning with two strikeouts before Mother Nature cut the game short.

Brooklyn goes head to head with Hudson Valley again tomorrow night before returning to MCU Park on Saturday night to open a series against the Aberdeen Doubledays. Jose Celas will make his second start of the season as the Cyclones celebrate Star Wars night at MCU Park. Be sure to stick around afterwards to enjoy a post game fireworks show. Tickets start at just $10, and are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park Box Office, or at BrooklynCyclones.com.
